Project Icarus Couch
Hey guys~ We've all finally agreed on the final design concept. We spent the whole Singapore National Day's eve night modelling the 2nd prototype all the way till 3am in the morning. This prototype is made out of soft wires, hard paper, balloons and plenty of tape. I'm so glad that our ideas are finally materialising. I hope you can contribute and support our project. We are just a few guys with awesome ideas. Won't it be a shame if we don't have enough funds to execute this awesome project? With your support, we will definitely take our CS community to a whole new level! :)
Hey guys! Thanks for your continuous support for our project. I am please to unveil our first hand-made scaled-down crappy model! :) Made out of stick stirrers from Starbucks, masking tape, a party balloon and several stiff paper from my work office. Watch out for more updates in this space
The Redbull Flugtag
Flugtag competition is a crazy, fun-filled event in which a team of 4 participants build a homemade, human-powered flying machine and attempt to fly off a 6m high ramp in to the waters of Siloso beach. Flugtag, which means flying day in German, is an event that happens every year in over 35 different cities around the world.
This year, 28th of October, the Redbull Flugtag competition is finally coming to Singapore.
Our Team
Consisting of highly diversed ethnic global travelers, we plan to enter this competition! We come from an online community of social travelers called Couchsurfers. Our plan is to build a huge couch structure out of eco friendly material, add wings to it, drive it down a 6m ramp off the coast of Siloso Beach and watch it fly! The judging criteria is based on Flight Distance, Creativity and Showmanship of the pre-flight entertainment sketch.
Project Icarus
Our Project needs your contribution to fund the building materials as well as the costume and props which would amount to approximately $4000. In return for your generous contribution, we'll reserve a special spot for you on siloso beach on the event day! Check out the sidebar to the right for more goodies! We will also upload the video of our epic flight journey from the building all the way to competition day and we will send the link to you!
Get Involved!
Currently, we already have our awesome design concepts. The project will kickstart on the 26th of August. We will begin buying materials, constructing the structure, designing the costumes, rehearsing the choreography and perhaps a few preliminary test drives. This will go on all the way till competition day on the 28th of October. And then come competition day, you can just relax, grab a can of Redbull and watch us fly!
